			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Today, we (that is Matej Černe, Christina Nerstad, and Anders Dysvik) held a research seminar on an article that we will present at the Academy of Management Conference 2012, Boston, MA. It has also been chosen for the publication in Best paper conference proceedings. Its&#8217; central idea is that knowledge hiding of an individual creates a so-called distrust loop which in turn damages one&#8217;s self creativity (not just creativity of coworkers). And performance climate just makes things worse (to put it in simple terms). However, that there is a cure for that called a mastery climate &#8211; a climate that promotes development, growth and collaboration among colleagues.  Great discussions and most helpful comments from the colleagues from Department of Leadership and Organisational Behavior, BI Norwegian Business School.</p>

Reviewers have ranked the paper <strong>Černe, M., Nerstad, C., Škerlavaj, M. &#8220;Don&#8217;t come around here no more: Knowledge hiding, perceived motivational climate, and creativity&#8221;</strong> to be amongst the best in the OB Division. We provocatively suggest and prove that knowledge hiding not only damages organizations, but also individuals who hide knowledge themselves. In addition, we offer a remedy for that. The negative effect of knowledge hiding on creativity can be mitigated with fostering appropriate organizational climate.</p>

This time we got second prize for the paper <strong><em>Škerlavaj, M., Dimovski, V., &amp; Desouza, K. (2010): <a href="10.1057/jit.2010.3" target="_blank">Patterns and Structures of Intra-Organizational Learning Networks Within a Knowledge-Intensive Organization</a>, Journal of Information Technology, 25(2):189-204</em></strong>.</p>
<blockquote><p><strong>The abstract.</strong> This paper employs the network perspective to study patterns and structures of intra-organizational learning networks. The theoretical background draws from cognitive theories, theories of homophily and proximity, theories of social exchange, the theory of generalized exchange, small-worlds theory, and social process theory. The levels of analysis applied are actor, dyadic, triadic, and global. Confirmatory social network analysis (exponential random graph modeling) was employed for data analysis. Findings suggest: (1) central actors in the learning network are experienced and hold senior positions in the organizational hierarchy; (2) evidence of homophily (in terms of gender, tenure, and hierarchical level relations) and proximity (in terms of geographical and departmental distances) in learning relationships; (3) learning relationships are non-reciprocal; and (4) transitivity and high local clustering with sparse inter-cluster ties are significant for intra-organizational learning networks.</p></blockquote>

It is a part of benchmarking as related to the endeavours of the <a href="http://cobik.si/en" target="_blank">Center of excellence in biosensorics, instrumentation and process control</a> &#8211; <a href="http://cobik.si/en/laboratories/laboratory-for-open-innovation-systems" target="_blank">Laboratory fo Open Innovation Systems </a>to develop a specalized programme MBAR for researchers and developers in need of business-related knowledge and skills. I&#8217;ll have an amazing opportunity to meet experts from MIT, Berkeley and UCLA.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://www.inderscience.com/browse/index.php?journalCODE=ejim"><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-986" title="EJIM" src="http://mihaskerlavaj.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/ejim.jpg?w=460" alt=""   /></a>Together with our Macedonian colleagues, we published <strong>ŠKERLAVAJ, Miha, ČERNE, Matej, KEKENOVSKI, Ljubomir, TEVDOVSKI, Dragan, TRPKOVA, Marija (2011). The organisational learning culture and organisational performance in Macedonian companies. <a href="http://www.inderscience.com/browse/index.php?journalCODE=ejim" target="_blank"><em>European journal of international management</em></a>, 5(6): 574-601.</strong></p>
<blockquote><p>The purpose of the paper is to construct, present and test a model that describes the effect of organisational learning culture on organisational<br />
performance improvement. To this end, we use data of 202 Macedonian companies and empirically test the model via structural equation modelling.<br />
We found that organisational learning culture has a direct and relatively strong  impact on non-financial performance from the employee, customer and<br />
supplier perspective. A direct but relatively smaller effect can be noticed on the financial performance. Managers need to be aware that such norms and values<br />
that ascribe high importance to information acquisition, distribution and interpretation need to be developed in order to achieve higher levels of<br />
organisational performance. The paper contributes to the generalisation of a research model previously tested in more-developed economies based on the<br />
data gathered in Macedonia, a developing country in transition.</p></blockquote>
<p>The study builds upon our previous awarded and cited paper in <a title="IJPE 2007" href="http://mihaskerlavaj.net/tag/international-journal-of-production-economics/" target="_blank">International Journal of Production Economics (2007)</a> and aims to generalize by controlling for a different setting of national culture as well as stage of economic development.</p>
